Vodacom and Reunert sign far-reaching agreement

20 October 2005

Vodacom and Reunert today confirmed that a long-term and far-reaching agreement has been signed whereby Reunert’s wholly-owned subsidiary, Nashua Mobile, will be a preferred Independent Service Provider to the Vodacom network for at least the next five years – with an option of a further 5 years – at “highly satisfactory” terms for both parties.

The signing of this agreement follows the recent announcement by Vodacom and Altech of a similar agreement with Autopage cellular, a move which clearly signals Vodacom’s intended strategy with regards to Independent Service Provision on its network.

The conclusion of the agreement ends months of market speculation concerning the strategy of Vodacom going forward and, in particular, its commitment to on-going relationships with Independent Service Providers.

Alan Knott-Craig, Vodacom CEO, is very satisfied with the conclusion of this deal as it has real long term benefits for both parties. “This agreement sees the extension of a very successful partnership between two influential forces in South Africa’s cellular industry.” Even though the exact financial details of the agreement remain confidential, both Vodacom and Reunert look forward to a long term mutually beneficial working relationship. The renewal of the agreement clearly illustrates Vodacom’s support of Nashua Mobile as a channel distribution partner.

Knott-Craig said that Vodacom is assured of Nashua Mobile’s commitment to continuously contributing to Vodacom’s success. “The agreement duration has been set for a minimum of five years, with an additional five year option. This underlines Vodacom’s satisfaction in terms of excellent service delivery, best business practices, and Nashua Mobile’s exceptional performance as a partner.”

“We are proud to be associated with Vodacom and of the contribution that Nashua Mobile has made over more than a decade to the success of Vodacom,” said Reunert Chief Executive, Gerrit Pretorius. “For us, this agreement recognises the important role that Nashua Mobile has played in strengthening Vodacom’s presence in the market and we are committed to making an even bigger contribution than that accomplished to date. Nashua Mobile’s clientele will continue receiving excellent service.”
